Who is the Webwalker?
R. Marshall Webber

Marshall Webber didn’t have long to adjust to a non-technological world after his birth in 1969, because only a month later, he watched (albeit, while drooling) Neil Armstrong prancing around on the moon. This early exposure to the fascination (and dangers) of what can be done with technology was reinforced by his father, Rick Webber, who read Robert A. Heinlein sci-fi stories to him and encouraged Marshall to pursue technology as a craft, as well as for enjoyment.

Born in Blackfoot, Idaho, Marshall moved to New Jersey in 1974. Bouncing between aquaria keeping, computers, writing, graphic design and theatre as a child and teenager made for an eclectic worldview. During that time he appeared in over 30 plays in the Philadelphia area. After spending 18 years there, he made his way to Southern Oregon State College in 1991 to pursue a degree in Theatre. Surprised and disappointed by the prejudices of a "liberal" school against his religious faith, Marshall left Southern Oregon for Seattle Pacific University, where he graduated in 1994.

Marshall spent a year at Logos Research Systems on nearby Whidbey Island sopping up knowledge of the computer industry (an interest which never faltered, despite his diversion into theatre) and then returned to Seattle. Sarah Webber After a year working at Seattle Pacific University, he became a Microsoft Technical Support Engineer supporting Windows 95, now the world’s most popular PC Operating System. In June of 1996 he was engaged to Sarah Boyle, an English Literature major at SPU. They were married on June 21st, 1997 in Sarah’s home town of Fresno, California.

In October of 1996, Marshall joined The Boeing Company as a Computer Systems Administrator. He performed network troubleshooting at the largest building in the world, Boeing’s 747/767/777 factory in Everett, Washington and eventually became a Systems Analyst, designing websites for Site Operations. As of 1999, he and Sarah have relocated to Rural New Jersey where Marshall is a computer consultant for Omicron of Philadelphia. There, and on assignment, he performs System Administration on Hewlett-Packard mainframes, including one of the first of the mighty V-2500 series being installed in Wilmington, Delaware.

At age 28, Marshall is newly married, working on some of the most powerful servers in the world, writing a monthly column on emergent computer technology, and enjoying the company of his life partner. Some award winning web site designs include Philadelphia AutoCAD Users Group, Brian Richards Magic & Comedy, Pacific Northwest Books Company, and of course, Webwrench CyberSites.
